Hi, almost every time we use the machine, ''step 1'' get jammed within the press. Is it normal? Is there something we can do? Thanks

My button maker is not working properly. I lent it to another teacher last year before I ever used it. They said it worked. I am trying to use it this year and find that the button assembly does not remain in the handle when released. I am doing the proper loading(using copy paper) according to step 1. How can I fix this issue?
